Ms Ivy gave us a short lecture on how we could create our very own font in Illustrator.. yay!!
We had to first type the letters out and outline them so we can "Ungroup" them to make changes to each letter. Tools such as twirl tool, pucker tool, etc were used to give the font special designs.
The letters were than colored and arrange to express our creativity.
We were required to create a typography with the word "Happy" in class. It is a free theme to express how we feel the word "Happy" should be seen.
Below is what I have done in class.

Picture
Happy Typography
To me happy is when one is in a bright mood, jumping around in every possible way,  So i did my typography in bright various colors to execute my perspective of happy. The words are place in this formation as its like they are jumping around but still staying together in happiness. The spiral and edges in different spots allow the word to express themselves. As if they are having fun together, That is usually a time when people are happy.
We were also asked to do a typography for another word of our choice as practice. I choose the word "Pain" as it is a word that ties closely to my life. I would like to express my view of it to other people.

Pain typography
My perception of pain is like everything is twisted and there are many sharp edges, and sometimes it is so messed up that the pain its absolute. As well as having this heavy feelings and usually in a dark mood with an overbearing dark aura. That is why the word pain was portrayed in this manner with swirls, shard edges, gooey heavy feel, with a shadow that is overbearing, and in dark colors.

Regular A4 paper is 2D
This week we learn about Visual Perception. How we can use something in 2D and make it into 3D.
Firstly a piece of A4 paper was folded into a crane. The height of the body of the swam gives a perception of depth. As the wings gave it a perception of distance, size, and space. Allowing it to be perceive as a 3D object.

Making the 2D paper into something we can perceive as 3D
To allow further enhance visual perception there are 8 major components
  • Time
    - reading things in chronological order
    - how we perceive something
  • Illusion
    - the movement of the crane on the plane creates an illusion (fast/slow)
    - created with the combination of the major component "Time & Motion"

  • Motion
-motion of and on the 2D and 3D space.
  • Binocular Cues
    - Depth cue which both results for BOTH way of seeing
    -Both eyes
  • Monocular Cue
-Depth cue which results only using ONE way.
    -Linear
  • Light & Brightness
    - gives the 2D object a 3D look.
    - cast shadows

  • Position
    - setting
    - theme
    -2D & 3D
  • Orientation
    -Left
    -Right
    -Middle
    -Justified

The other components that contribute to visual perception are:
  • Partial Overlap
    - of the crane wings and the 2D plane.
  • Parallax & Muscular
    - allow us to perceive
    -under binocular cues
  • Size
-size of each part of the plane
  • Colour
    - the different colour gives value to the object like texture and gradient.
-texture and gradient are transparency and/or blurry of details on certain areas of the plane and object.
  • VPoint
    -Vanishing Point = perspective.
-the crane's shape of 3 major points (Aerial, Linear, Detail) on the 2D plane all links to a certain VPoint contributing to the visual perception of it as a 3D object.

Beautyfied
Quiz 1 we were to beautify her using photoshop. Firstly I tried using the clone tool to clone the nicer places to the ones that were bad. However the outcome was pretty bad, she look like she had a patterned face. I almost died laughing at the end result.
So I tried redoing most of the correction with brush tool. coloring the skin with different shades to make it look more realistic with a 3D feel. I have to admit i was pretty satisfied than, but now looking back it has this look and feel of an art than a actual human picture.
I changed the color of her hair and the lipstick color. As well as making a glossy look for the lipstick. I also changed her eyes to a blue eye. Brushes were used to draw on make up for the eyes. I also gave her a pink blusher to make it look as if she had rosy cheeks.
Ultimately, I am still satisfied with my work except for the part where it looks a little arty.

Traced
We were thought how to draw with Illustrator. Our artwork was to traced the whole Gundam model using pen tool in Illustrator.
We were also though how to make a 2D vector image look like it is in 3D. We were though that by appointing a point of light source will do the job. Drawing multiple times in smaller proportion using different shades of a certain color allows the image to portray that the image has shadows at places not reachable by the light source.
After some practice my final traced image is shown as above on the right.
